Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao's Remarks on the visit of the Brazilian Foreign Minister to China

Question: What topics will be covered during the visit of the Brazilian Foreign Minister to China? What's your comment on the current situation of the China-Brazil relations?

Answer: During Foreign Minister Amorim's visit to China, the two sides will exchange views on bilateral relations and international issues of common interest. Premier Wen Jiabao and State Councillor Tang Jiaxuan will meet with him respectively. Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing will hold a working meeting with him.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Brazil. The momentum of bilateral relations is sound, with strengthened political trust and extensive strategic partnership. China and Brazil are respectively the largest trade partners in each other's region. In 2003, the bilateral trade increased by a large margin, reaching 8 billion US dollars. The China-Brazil satellite project is progressing smoothly. Last year, the second earth resource satellite developed by the two countries was successfully launched and put into use. The satellite data has been widely used in such fields as agriculture, environmental protection and urban planning with satisfactory results. The first feeder liner jointly devloped by China and Brazil has come off the assembling line and gone through its trial flight successfully. The two sides have also maintained close consultation and mutual support in international affairs, and made positive contribution together for safeguarding the overall interest of the developing countries.
