Q: On April 28th, the US Government rejected the AFL-CIO's request to investigate "Chinese labor rights and standards" and the possible request of the US Manufacturers' Association to investigate the Chinese Government's manipulation of the RMB currency rate in accordance with Article 301. What's your comment? A: We welcome the wise decision made by the US Government, believing that it will benefit further development of the Sino-US cooperation in trade and commerce. The Chinese Government has always respected labor rights and standards universally recognized by the international community. China attaches great importance to the protection of the lawful labor rights and has taken a series of measures in legislation, law-enforcement and management, which help to effectively protect labor rights. It is a fact witnessed by all. China has adopted a single floating currency with management based on market supplies and demands. The system suits China in its current economic development status and financial monitoring level as well as the capacity of the Chinese enterprises. It creates a stable financial environment for China to conduct trade exchanges and investment cooperation with other countries including the US. The development of healthy and stable economic cooperation and trade between China and the US on the basis of equality and mutual benefit is of significance to furthering the economic development of both countries and well-beings of both peoples. China stands ready to enhance communication and consultation with the US in accordance with the principle of "development, equality and mutual benefit" so as to properly handle economic and trade issues and make concerted efforts to promote economic and trade cooperation between the two countries as well as the development of bilateral ties. |
